About the program

The Sir Charles Court Young Leaders Program is based on the shared ideals of Sir Charles Court and former Prime Minister John Curtin: Vision, Leadership and Community Service.

Year 10 students who display academic ability, leadership potential and an interest in helping the wider community are encouraged to be nominated and apply for the Sir Charles Court Young Leaders Program. Selected students attend an intensive and exciting four day leadership camp where they are exposed to a range of challenging activities aimed at building confidence and developing leadership skills.

Program details

The Sir Charles Court Young Leaders Program includes:

  • A four day leadership camp
  • Leadership activities aimed at developing student’s self-awareness, goal setting, teamwork and problem solving skills
  • Graduation ceremony held at Curtin University.

The program is free with all meals, accommodation and program activities included.     

    Key learnings

    Students who are selected for the program will:

    1. Develop an understanding of self: values, beliefs, learning styles, dreams and goals
    2. Learn how to access positive emotional states and act in difficult situation
    3. Recognise leadership styles and attributes and how they apply in different situations
    4. Understand elements of teamwork and explore leading and participating as a team member
    5. Collaborate in problem solving activities
    6. Build confidence by pushing boundaries and facing challenges
    7. Develop an awareness of global and local issues such as fair trade, refugees and asylum-seekers and how these impact society
    8. Discover the benefits of exercise and stretching on physical health through recreation and active games
    9. Build support networks in tutorial groups and discover the importance of debriefing.

    Sir Charles Court Leadership Award

    Students who complete the Sir Charles Court Young Leaders Program and enrol to complete their undergraduate degree at Curtin University will be awarded a one-off cash payment of $3,000 to contribute towards educational related expenses. Visit the Scholarships website to find out more.
