External EAP

Staff members may opt to seek assistance externally to Curtin through the services provided by Optum.

Optum provides counselling and support to all Curtin employees about a wide range of issues that could affect work performance. 

They are also able to assist with immediate family members of staff who have been directly impacted by issues occurring at or due to the work of the staff member. However, these sessions are limited to 1-2 sessions except in extraordinary circumstances.

Couple counselling is provided to staff members and their partners as requested - subject to the same limitation of individual sessions,

Services provided: Face to face counselling, online services, trauma response, workplace assistance, financial assistance, legal assistance etc

Optum offers a wide range of services to assist clients including, but not limited to, face-to-face counselling, online services, trauma response, workplace assistance, and advice on financial and legal matters.

Some of the issues often presented include:

  • Maximising your potential/performance
  • Relationship and marital problems
  • Work-related issues
  • Balancing family and work responsibilities
  • Concerns about your children or family members
  • Changes at work or home
  • Depression, anxiety
  • Stress management
  • Elder care (coping skills, etc)
  • Eating disorders
  • Alcohol and other drug related issues

How to Make an Optum Booking

Once you decide you wish to speak to an external EAP provider, you can contact Optum 24 hours a day, Australia wide, on 1300 361 008. You do not need special permission to be seen by an Optum counsellor, so you can self-refer as you choose. Simply identify yourself as a Curtin staff member at the time of booking to ensure you receive a free service.
