Curtin Wins Silver Recognition at the Australian LGBTIQ+ Inclusion Awards

Silver Recognition for Curtin at the Pride in Diversity awards

Curtin University has been awarded Silver Recognition at the sell-out 2017 Australian LGBTIQ+ Inclusion Awards, held in Sydney by ACON’s national not-for-profit program, Pride in Diversity.

Curtin is proud to join the list of top employers for LGBTIQ+ inclusion in Australia determined by an assessment against the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI).

This year, the AWEI saw 116 employers across Australia participate – a 38% increase compared to 2016. The employee survey attached to the index received 16,759 responses. By participating in the AWEI and the employee survey, Curtin are able to benchmark the University’s practice against other organisations and obtain annual data on the impact initiatives are having on students and staff. The award is wonderful recognition of the progress Curtin continues to make in creating an environment where LGBTIQ+ people not only belong, but where they are supported to reach the pinnacle of their chosen field.

Led by our values, we set our sights on a fairer and more just society for all and applaud the awardees of the inaugural Platinum Employer status, which recognizes organisations that have ranked within the top ten for a minimum of four years within the last five year period, or have been acknowledged as Employer of the Year twice within that time frame.   The inaugural awardees of Platinum Employer status were Goldman Sachs, PricewaterhouseCoopers,  The University of Western Australia and Accenture.   Curtin would also like to congratulate ANZ as Employer of the Year and the Australian Football League as the inaugural winner of the Pride in Sport Index (PSI) Organisation of the Year Award.
