For Higher Degree by Research Students

For Higher Degree by Research Students

On average, employers only spend 6-30 seconds reading a resume! Come along to this workshop to hear about what employers are really looking for in a resume and cover letter.

This workshop has been developed for the needs of Higher Degree by Research students, and is applicable if you are looking to obtain work in academia, industry or the not-for-profit sector.

This workshop is being held as part of 'Research Week’, and will be delivered by staff from the Curtin Careers & Employment Centre who specialise in working with HDR students.

This workshop runs for 90 minutes, 2:00pm to 3:30pm.

For Higher Degree by Research Students

Many research students are unsure what career path to pursue after completing their research at Curtin. This workshop will help you to know yourself a bit better, which is the foundation upon which to make good career choices. There will be plenty of activities to undertake during this session and opportunities for you to discuss with other workshop participants, should you wish. 

This workshop is being held as part of 'Research Week’, and will be delivered by staff from the Curtin Careers & Employment Centre who specialise in working with HDR students.

This workshop runs for 2 hours, 9:30am to 11:30am.

For Higher Degree by Research Students

For Higher Degree by Research Students

The majority of jobs are not widely advertised. If you are seeking work in a competitive sector you will need to be aware of how to go about tracking down those elusive opportunities through the use of speculative approaches to organisations of interest to you. This workshop will also cover the importance of networking skills in helping you to secure work.

The session will be interactive and there will be opportunities for you to ask questions and discuss relevant issues with the rest of the group.

This workshop is being held as part of 'Research Week’, and will be delivered by staff from the Curtin Careers & Employment Centre who specialise in working with HDR students.

This workshop runs for 2 hours, 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

This workshop will cover the following points:

  • The importance of personal branding to differentiate yourself.
  • Tips on how to select key values and attributes that you would like to communicate to a potential employer and how you wish to be perceived.
  • Advice on how to structure your resume and cover letter for maximum impact.
  • An insight into how to market your particular skills and experience.
  • The importance of tailoring your resume and cover letter.
  • Signposting to further resources and help.

This workshop is delivered by Curtin Careers & Employment Centre and is part of the Building Your Career initiative at the Curtin Graduate School of Business.
