[Posted: 9 Jul 2018]

The Shooting Goals program, a netball based education program run in Port Hedland in conjunction with BHP and Swan Districts FC bought their 10 best students to Perth to explore careers in sport.

Participants in the program are encouraged to apply their acquired skills within the community, benefiting local sporting organisations with qualified coaches, umpires, trainers and administrators.

Students in year 11 and 12 complete nationally accredited certificates in Sport & Recreation.

This enables students to fast-track into tertiary education and places them in an advantaged position for tertiary entrance.

The students enjoyed a tour of the University sporting facilities, sessions on the court and in the Fitness Centre and an education session with Elite Athlete Coordinator Ben Edmondson, who showcased the pathways to University and the sport industry to the girls.

The feedback from teachers and students alike was extremely positive with many of the girls claiming to be energised to apply for University and loved the facilities at Curtin.
