Curtin students selected in Women's National Junior Squad

[Posted: 18 Aug 2017]

Three Curtin students were selected in the Hockey Women’s National Junior Squad this week.

The news came after a successful National U21’s Championship in Woollongong, where the State Women’s  U21 team brought home the silver medal in a closely contested gold medal match against NSW.

Annie Gibbs, a Primary Education student, Karrie Somerville, a Physiotherapy student and Shanea Tonkin, a Nursing student, were three of the 24 selected in the team.

The next junior World Cup will be held in 2020 so the focus for the athletes will be to move to the national development squad and then the Hockey Australia High Performance Program.

All three are part of the Curtin Elite Athlete Program, supporting Curtin University students that are competing in a state or national representative squad, team or individual sport.
