Staff member ticks "Run a marathon" off her bucket list

[Posted: 26 Oct 2016]

Jane the marathon runner

Curtin Stadium Customer Service Supervisor Jane Hambley turned 30 in April and decided that age should be no barrier to any aspiration.

Jane just completed the Rottnest Marathon on Sunday 23 October 2016, a distance of 42.2km around the island off Perth.

She shared some of her first marathon experience:

"I have always loved running so I thought what better way to challenge myself – a marathon at the lovely Rottnest island.

The day was sunny and hot (great for spectators and island goers) but considering I had trained for 5 months in Perth’s chilly winter it was a bit of a shock.

I had friends and family there on the day to cheer me on and all I wanted was that feeling of crossing the line and it was more than I could have ever imagined.

After months of anxiety, doubt, stress, niggling injuries, a bout of the flu and even days when I wondered was it all worth it - I had tears of pain and happiness rolling down my cheeks as I crossed that line and jumped for joy like I had run for 4 minutes not 4 hours and 13 minutes.

This experience will live with me forever and if I ever doubt myself again all I need to think of is that crossing the line feeling!"

Congratulations Jane and we can't wait to see what goal you achieve next!
