Curtin student wins Parks and Leisure WA Award

[Posted: 21 Jun 2016]

Isaac Middle

Curtin University student Isaac Middle was awarded the David Aldous Student of the Year at the Parks and Leisure Australia WA Awards of Excellence last week.

Isaac was recognised for demonstrating his future potential in driving the importance of parks and leisure research into professional courses and amongst future practitioners whose decisions will have a fundamental impact on the future quality and impact of parks in our society.

Isaac is a PhD candidate and valued research assistant with Curtin's Centre for Sport and Recreation Research (CSRR).

CSRR is supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation WA (DSR) and Isaac has worked on several research projects that have informed DSR's focus on the provision of public open space that supports participation in sport and physical activity.

This work has also informed Curtin's approach for the retention of green space for sport in the master plans for Greater Curtin.

His doctoral studies and teaching in urban and regional planning have allowed him to raise awareness and educate others on the importance of parks and leisure.

Isaac will now go forward to the National Awards in Adelaide this October.

Initiatives and people connected to Curtin's Centre for Sport and Recreation Research and School of Built Environment were nominated in three categories in the PLA WA Awards of Excellence this year.
