Day Four Uni Games Sydney

The first Curtin team medal of the 2014 Uni Games goes to the sailing team! The team breezed their way through their last race of the competition against Monash, winning bronze. 

Down in the sand, the mixed volleyball team were knocked out by RMIT in their last round game of the week. After a semi final victory against Melbourne, the beach team will play for gold in the final hours of the games where they will take on RMIT for the 2014 beach title. 

The badminton men met UWA in the pool cross over rounds winning 221-165 and securing a place in the top four. They will play for Bronze on the final day of competition. In the women’s competition, Curtin lost their quarter final to Macquarie moving them into the semi-final group play off. After scoring 200-128 over UNSW the girls play for fifth on their final day.  

The pressure was on for the men’s basketball and hockey teams. Basketball finished strongly, with a 61-43 win against Avondale College and taking out Bond by four points. The Hockey boys took out a victory in their first game of the day against La Trobe University. Both teams will now face The University of Newcastle in the semi-finals.  

It was the last day of Swimming competition at the Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre, Jiorja Ralston claimed tenth in the grueling 800 m freestyle while Gianna Leone made her fifth final of the meet, placing seventh in the 200 m Butterfly.

Over on the cricket pitch, the Curtin boys were knocked out of medal contention by Melbourne, 68-133. The semi-final match against Bond University was a tight one with the boys scraping through by one run, 189-188. 

The volleyball women were up for another win in the preliminary rounds only to be knocked out 0-3 by UNSW in the semi-final.
