Curtin take home 7 gold at the Western University Games

[Posted: 11 Jul 2016]

Curtin took home second place overall with seven gold, six silver and five bronze medals at the 2016 Western University Games in Bunbury.

The team consisting of over 250 student athletes travelled to freezing cold Bunbury last week to represent Curtin University in the first Western University Games. The Western University Games were introduced to the west this year as part of the Uni Games program run by the Australian University Sport.

Curtin was represented in 15 sports and made up the largest travelling team. One of the main purpose of the Western University Games is to allow Universities to qualify for the Australian University Games in September this year. Curtin was able to qualify for every sport for the first time in its history which puts the team in good stead come the national competition later this year.

The Curtin Team ended up walking away with seven pennants, six silvers and five bronze. They achieved second place overall, narrowly losing to the University of Western Australia by 1 pennant. We would like to congratulate these students on their achievements and to make sure they continue on and represent Curtin in the Australian University Games in Perth later on in the year.
