Curtin student nominated onto the Australian Olympic Team

Stephen Bird

Curtin Psychology student and West Australian Institute of Sport paddler, Stephen Bird, has been nominated to compete at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games after winning the second selection event at the National Champions in Perth last week.

Bird also won the first selection event in Adelaide in February, so the K1 200m final secured his nomination to the Australian Olympic Committee for formal selection.

Bird finished the race in 34.81secs despite his nerves, to win ahead of the South Australian pairing of Callum Dunn (35.19) and Matt Goble (35.59).

Bird is part of the Elite Athlete Program at Curtin which supports elite athletes with their university studies.
